General Dentistry
Good dental health starts with regular care. At Grace Dental in Masterton, our general dentistry services are designed to keep your teeth and gums healthy at every stage of life. We recommend six-monthly check-ups for most patients, giving us the opportunity to catch small problems before they become bigger — and more expensive — issues.
During your appointment, your dentist will carry out a thorough examination of your teeth, gums, and oral tissues. We use digital x-rays to detect hidden decay, bone loss, and other concerns that aren't visible to the eye. Based on our findings, we'll create a personalised treatment plan that suits your needs and your budget.
- Comprehensive oral examinations and treatment planning
- Digital x-rays with reduced radiation exposure
- Tooth-coloured fillings and restorations
- Periodontal (gum) assessment and treatment
- Oral cancer screening
- Custom mouthguards for sports
Whether you're due for a routine check-up or have a specific concern, our Wairarapa team is here to help you maintain a healthy, confident smile.

Dental Implants
Missing teeth affect more than your appearance — they can impact your ability to eat, speak, and smile with confidence. Dental implants offer the most natural and permanent solution available, replacing both the root and the crown of a lost tooth.
An implant is a small titanium screw that is carefully placed into the jawbone, where it fuses naturally with the bone over several months. Once healed, a custom-made ceramic crown is attached, giving you a tooth that looks, feels, and functions just like the real thing. Implants also help stimulate the jawbone, preventing the bone loss that commonly follows tooth extraction.
- Single tooth implants
- Implant-supported bridges for multiple missing teeth
- Titanium biocompatible materials
- Jawbone preservation and stimulation
- Natural appearance and comfortable function
Our experienced Masterton dental team will assess your suitability for implants and guide you through every step of the process. We understand it's a significant investment, and we're here to answer all your questions.
Root Canal Treatment
If you've been told you need a root canal, don't worry — modern root canal treatment is far more comfortable than most people expect. It's a straightforward procedure that saves your natural tooth and relieves the pain caused by infection or damage to the nerve inside.
During treatment, your dentist carefully removes the infected or inflamed nerve tissue from inside the tooth, cleans and shapes the internal canals, and seals them to prevent further infection. In most cases, a crown is placed over the treated tooth afterwards to restore its strength and protect it for the long term.
- Diagnosis of nerve damage and infection
- Gentle removal of damaged tissue
- Thorough cleaning and disinfection of root canals
- Biocompatible sealing materials
- Follow-up crown restoration
At Grace Dental, we use precise digital imaging and modern techniques to make root canal treatment as efficient and comfortable as possible. Our Wairarapa patients are often surprised at how straightforward it is.
Hygiene & Prevention
Prevention is always better — and more affordable — than cure. Our hygiene and prevention programme at Grace Dental is designed to help you and your family maintain optimal oral health between visits, reducing the risk of decay, gum disease, and other problems down the track.
Professional cleaning (also known as a scale and polish) removes the hardened plaque and tartar that regular brushing and flossing can't reach, particularly in hard-to-access areas between teeth and along the gumline. We also offer fluoride treatments, fissure sealants for children and teenagers, and tailored oral health education.
- Professional scale and polish
- Fissure sealants for children and teens
- Fluoride application
- Personalised oral hygiene guidance
- Dietary advice for better dental health
- Gum disease prevention and early intervention
Our Masterton team will work with you to build good habits and identify risks early — because the healthiest teeth are the ones that never need treatment in the first place.
Tooth Extractions
Sometimes a tooth is too damaged, decayed, or problematic to save — and extraction is the best option for your overall oral health. At Grace Dental, we make the extraction process as gentle and stress-free as possible, with thorough anaesthesia and clear aftercare guidance.
Our dentists have extensive experience in both simple and surgical extractions, including wisdom teeth removal. We'll explain exactly what to expect before, during, and after the procedure, and discuss replacement options such as implants, bridges, or dentures if appropriate.
- Simple and surgical extractions
- Wisdom tooth removal
- Thorough local anaesthesia for comfort
- Detailed aftercare instructions
- Replacement options discussed and planned
We always explore alternatives before recommending extraction — but when it's the right choice, you're in safe, experienced hands at our Wairarapa practice.
Emergency Dental Care
Dental emergencies don't wait for a convenient time. Whether you're dealing with sudden pain, a broken tooth, a knocked-out tooth, or an injury to your mouth, Grace Dental offers priority emergency appointments so we can see you as quickly as possible.
If you're experiencing a dental emergency in Masterton or anywhere in the Wairarapa, call us straight away on (06) 378 2281. We'll do our best to fit you in on the same day. In the meantime, here are some quick tips:
- Knocked-out tooth: Keep it moist — place it back in the socket if possible, or store it in milk, and get to us immediately
- Severe toothache: Rinse with warm salt water and take over-the-counter pain relief
- Broken or chipped tooth: Save any fragments and avoid chewing on that side
- Lost filling or crown: Keep the area clean and avoid sticky or hard foods
- Swelling or abscess: Seek treatment promptly — infections can worsen quickly
For urgent care outside office hours, call (06) 378 2281 and follow the after-hours instructions on our voicemail.
